Large Cap Pharmaceuticals
The term denotes big and established pharmaceutical companies. These companies work on research, development and marketing of new and innovative therapies. These large pharmaceutical companies often co-operate with smaller biotech companies or eventually acquire them.
Medtech
The medtech sector includes the segments of „diagnostics“, „medical supply“ and „laboratory equipment“. Companies within this sector develop and sell equipment and procedures with which diseases may be prevented, diagnosed and treated.
Biotech
A collective term for relatively small and young pharmaceutical companies, that have a strong focus on research and development based on biological processes, genomics, recombinant protein engineering, and molecular targets. These companies typically use modern biochemistry, microbiology and process engineering to find new therapies and diagnostics to treat diseases. Several successful biotech companies have developed into large, profitable operations.
Generics
The generics industry is a relatively young branch in the pharmaceutical sector. Companies in this sector focus on product sales and distribution of drugs that have lost their original patent protection. With comparatively low expenses in „research & development“, generics are often priced much lower than the brand-named original therapy.
